HOW TO DEAL WITH COLLEGE PRESSURE?

Going to college comes with the overwhelming pressure of succeeding. After putting years of hard work at school to maintain the grades, a dip in college can cause stress. Though a dip in percentage is normal, as the university is harder but it could cause anxiety especially when you are trying your best. It becomes more painful when it happens during the beginning of the post-secondary experience while you are trying to find your ground.   1. Do not doubt yourself:
    A slight dip in marks could lead to a spiral which could make you doubt yourself. Remember that you got here with your hard work and that you are worthy of it. College is tougher. A slight dip of percentage is okay. Do not let this get you down.
    Even while doing your assignments, do not second guess yourself. What you have done is good enough and you are trying your level best.
  2. Prioritize:
    Keep a planner on you and organize all your assignments, readings and exams beforehand. Block time off in advance for exam preparations. Having a to-do list and checking things off can help you remain calm and give you perspective.
  3. Be a part of a study group:
    The moment we hear about study groups we think about chit chat and absolutely no studying. But that’s not true. Studying in a group can make you feel more empowered. It’s the best way to clear your doubts, bounce ideas off one another and help each other with editing. Studying together is a way to make friends and work together towards a common goal of graduating.
  4. Talk it out:
    The more we keep this overwhelming pressure inside, the more harm it is going to do. Suppressing it would negatively affect your mental health. So open up and have a heart to heart conversation with someone. The more you keep it inside, the more your frustration will grow and you will feel like exploding. Talking to someone would not only make you feel better but would also make you realize that you are not alone. There are people with you who support you.
  5. Get away from your books:
    Do yourself a favour and get away from your books. Go to the gym, watch a movie, go for a walk, chat with friends, do anything that is not school work. Unwind yourself, it is important for your mental health. Do not forget to get enough sleep.
  6. Ask for help:
    University level education can be difficult, so don’t be afraid of asking for help. Colleges have academic advisors and students services who can work with you to help you develop better study habits. You can always approach your professor during office hours and discuss your difficulties with them.
